Taxes and the Happiness of the People
Access to health care and higher education are considered basic human rights in happier nations, but not in the US, where they’re available without restrictions only to the rich.
Those are two big reasons why our happiness rating is not good.
We’re an extremely rich nation and, by international standards, our taxes are low. We don’t have to tolerate inferior social programs.

- Levy a progressive wealth tax
- Enforce the 20th century protections for working class wealth
- Pass universal health care
- Pass universal access to higher education
- Develop 21st century social programs
We could use additional tax money to increase social security and Medicaid, pay down the debt, create jobs, build infrastructure, fight climate change, support public health, FAA, NOAA, NASA, USAID, medical research, and pure science.
